Install Windows On Vmware Fusion 11

Insert the Windows 10 disc in your DVD drive. Launch VMWare Fusion 11. Click the Install from disc or image icon. Download the VMware Fusion disk image from the VMware Fusion Web site. The VMware Fusion disk image is saved to your default download directory. Double-click the VMware Fusion.dmg file to mount it. Insert the VMware Fusion USB install drive.

VMware Fusion gives Mac users the power to run other operating systems – like Windows 10 – side by side with Mac applications, without rebooting. Installing VMware Fusion and Windows 10 on your Mac will permit you to run Windows-only software via AppsAnywhere.

Installing VMware Fusion

  1. Download VMware Fusion. See the instructions on how to setup a VMware account.
  2. Navigate to your download location and double-click the download file.
  3. Double-click the VMware Fusion icon to start the installation.
  4. Click the Open button to confirm that you want to open the file.
  5. Authenticate using your local computer credentials to continue with installation.
  6. Click Open Security Preferences when you receive the System Extension Blocked pop-up.
  7. Click Allow after confirming the software developer is VMware, Inc.
  8. Close System Preferences.
  9. Read the Terms & Conditions from VMware Fusion and click Agree.
  10. Type in the license key obtained from Step 1 and click Continue.
  11. Authenticate using your local computer credentials.
  12. Optional: Uncheck Join the VMware Customer Experience Improvement Program if you wish not to participate.
  13. Click Done.
  14. Click OK on the prompt to allow access to control system events.
  15. If you see a prompt titled Unable to access Accessibility click OK.
  16. On the Accessibility Access pop-up, click Open System Preferences.
  17. On the privacy tab within Security & Privacy settings, click the lock icon to unlock the settings.
  18. You will be prompted to enter your local computer password. Type in your password and click Unlock.
  19. Click Accessibility from the left menu and check the checkbox for VMware Fusion.
  20. Quit the VMware Fusion.app from your dock.Note: this step is important as if the application is not fully closed, the settings you applied above won’t take effect.
  21. Navigate to your Applications folder via Finder and open VMware Fusion.app again.

Setting up a Windows 10 VM using VMware Fusion

  1. Download a Windows 10 ISO and license key. See the instructions on getting started with Azure Dev Tools for students.
  2. Launch VMware Fusion.
  3. Click Install from disc or image.
  4. Click Use another disc or disc image…
  5. Navigate to your downloaded Windows 10 ISO file and click Open.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Select Microsoft Windows > Windows 10 x64 and click Continue.
  8. Select Legacy BIOS and click Continue.
  9. Click Customize Settings and set your preferred settings.
    Note: These settings may vary depending on the specific application requirements and/or your computer specifications.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. Click Save.
    Optional: You can save your VM in a different location and you can set a preferred name for your VM.
  12. The Windows 10 installation will start. Once installation is complete, you can configure your Windows 10 environment as you wish.

To use the School of Business Windows 10 Learning Environment a hypervisor, either VMware Fusion or Oracle VirtualBox is required. These instructions are for installing VMware Fusion.

  • Complete the account request form.
  • Provide your full first name in the First Name field.
  • Provide your last name in the Last Name field.
  • In the Email field enter your valid UConn email address. All requests not made with a UConn email address will be ignored.
  • In the Issue Description field enter the School of Business course number that requires the VMware product you whish to download. Also include your NetID for validation.
  • Failure to provide the requested information will delay your account creation.
  • Provide the appropriate Captcha response
  • Click Send.

A confirmation email will be sent to you with your username and password. This process may take 1 to 2 days.

On the student tab, click the Software hyperlink
Click the hyperlink below the product icon for VMware Fusion 8 (for Mac OS X).
Click Add to Cart.
Click Check Out.
Review the End-User License Agreement and click I Accept.
Confirm the order information and click Proceed With Order.
Complete the VMware Graduation Offer form fields, Click Next.
Click the option to Email order receipt. Or make note of the Serial Number. In the example provided the fictitious serial number is underlined in red. Your serial number is needed for the install and should be kept safe should you have to reinstall the software in the future for some reason.
Click Start Download.
Click Download.
Select the option to Save File.
Click OK.

Installing VMware Fusion


Go to your downloads folder (option+command+L) and double click on the VMware-Fusion disk image file.
Double click on the Installer window icon to initiate the installation.
Click Open.
Enter the administrative user's account credentials.
Click OK.
Review the End-User License Agreement. Click Agree.
Enter the license key you made note of or from the emailed receipt in the space provided.
Click Continue.
Enter the administrative user's account credentials.
Click OK.
Click Done.
